Why You Should Consider the 2021 Toyota Venza As Your Next Cross-Over SUV

The All-New Toyota Venza is a Hot Seller

The all-new 2021 Toyota Venza is making hot headlines this year with its revamped styling and refined tuning. The Venza model sits in between the RAV4 and the Highlander on Toyota’s model lineup. And despite similar characteristics of a 5-passenger cross-over SUV, the Venza offers more luxury and comfort compared to that of the RAV4 in lieu of less off-road capability and more in favor of smooth road driving. The Venza also has smoother lines and a more contemporary and handsome look that may otherwise fool you into thinking it’s from a luxury line. Amongst that, the Venza is powered exclusively by a hybrid powertrain that has proven to have exceptional fuel economy and predictable power during our week’s long test-drive.

Three trims are available in the US including that includes the LE, XLE and Limited. The XLE is preferred with its inclusion of a keyless passive entry system, front and rear parking sensors, and larger 19″ wheels for enhanced cosmetic looks. Only all-wheel drive is offered with the Venza.

Powertrain

The Toyota Venza is only offered in a hybrid powertrain that’s fitted with a standard 2.5 liter 4-cylinder engine with three electric motors that all work synchronously with a CVT transmission. That gives the Venza a total of 219 horsepower and while that’s not a lot on paper, the triple AC induction motor setup provides plenty of torque on demand thanks to its instantaneous power delivery.

Fuel economy is where the Venza flourishes with an EPA rating of 37 mpg on combined city and highway driving. That’s significantly more than many of its competitors in which not many 5-door cross-overs even offer a hybrid powertrain option. Our test drive scores in at 36 mpg, which comes very close to that on paper.

Interior and Tech Features

Although the Venza is slightly less roomier than its RAV4 sibling, it’s fitted with plenty of higher quality and more comfortable features and materials. The overall cabin space is smooth and subtle with a tranquil vibe whose expertise borrowed from its in-house Lexus design department.

The interior is constructed of well-graded perforated synthetic leather seats of similar quality in the Lexus lineup. Our Limited trim under test also comes with heated and ventilated front seats for added comfort as well. Part of the Limited trim is a Star Gaze fixed panoramic sun roof that has the ability to switch between fully transparent and frosted glass.

Rear seating provides adequate legroom for three full size passengers, but would be more ideal for younger kids or teenagers. Cargo space is easily made accessible with a 60/40 folding rear seats as well.

Base LE trim receive a smaller 8″ infotainment display while the XLE trim can be upgraded with a larger 12.3″ infotainment touchscreen that also comes standard on the higher Limited trim. The upgraded infotainment system also comes with an upgraded JBL 9-speaker audio system that delivers crisp audio quality within its well insulated cabin space.

Test Drive and Final Thoughts

Power delivery from the Venza’s hybrid reveals and smooth, predictable and quiet ride that surprisingly matches even those in the luxury tier. Also enjoyed is the exceptionally quiet cabin space, and luxury grade and cozy interior. Unique to the Venza is its hybrid powertrainthat proved quick and seamless power delivery. Although there is nothing built into the Venza strictly for performance, steering and handling also proved to be responsive with good road feedback.

When it comes to price, it’s not exactly cheap with the baes LE trim starting at $33,885 and the more preferred XLE trim at $37,415 that comes with more convenience features. The highest Limited trim priced at $41,215 comes with more luxury features including synthetic perforated leather seats that are both heated and cooled, an upgraded JBL 9-speaker audio surround system, Star Gaze moon roof, heated steering wheel and a 360 degree camera.
